The women’s Quranic activities department of the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine organized the Quranic event.

According to the website of the Astan, the participants answered questions about the verses in writing.

Karrar al-Shammari, head of the Astan’s Quranic media center, said the competition was organized for female university students with the aim of promoting knowledge about Mahdism.

It was also meant to answer questions and doubts raised about the issue, said Amal al-Matouri, head of the women’s Quranic activities department.

Similar competitions are planned to be organized in a larger scale at Iraq’s universities, she noted.

Mahdism refers to the belief that the last Shia Imam, Imam Zaman (may God hasten his glad advent), will reappear at the end of time and spread justice in the world.
